Hock, Mahler finish 1-2 in decathlon at Big 12 Championships Published by Texas SID on May 16, 2015 AMES, Iowa – Texas continued to put itself in position to sweep the Big 12 Conference Championships on Saturday as the Longhorns dominated a number of events during preliminaries. The men's team also added another field event title thanks to Ryan Crouser.
Through eight of the 21 events, the men's team still leads the competition with 71 points. Texas Tech is second with 50.75. The Texas women are in sixth with 24.5 points through seven events but advanced runners in bunches to the final in some events.
Texas advanced runners to the finals in every event on Saturday, except the women's 800 meters. That ensures the Longhorns will not lose ground in some events and provide point grabs in others where Texas advanced multiple runners. One of those events was the women's 200 meters that saw Texas advance five runners to the final.
"Those that have advanced to the finals, and everyone in the field events, they know what's at stake," said Head Coach Mario Sategna. "They're not running for second place. They're going to give their best effort, and that's where the attention to detail and the little things are going to be the deciding factors in a lot of the events tomorrow."
